Canadian Government Bank Notes

All of the notes portrayed in the following section are Canadian legal tender however the Bank of Canada has withdrawn them from circulation and has replaced them with notes or coins from a newer series.

Note: In the 1954 bank note series, controversy arose because the highlighted areas in the Queen's hair gave the illusion of a grinning demon behind the ear. The term "Devil's Head" is commonly used to describe these bank notes. The Bank of Canada modified this series of bank notes in 1956 for all denominations by darkening the highlights in the hair to remove any such likeness.

On each page, you will notice detailed information about each individual note in the collection. Charlton catalogue numbers, serial numbers, signatures, note condition, bank note printer and estimated value are included. The printer has been abbreviated and if you hover your mouse over the text BABN or CBN, the full company name will be displayed. The estimated value is taken from the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Government Paper Money, 17th Edition, 2005.
